Santa Sofia
D’Epiro (S:Sofia) is a town situated in the city of Cosenza,
made up of both Italo-Albanian language and culture. It was
founded by Albanian immigrants travelling to Calabria in the XVI
century. Even today, the citizens of S.Sofia incorporate the
true traditions, both civil and religious of the Albanian
culture, including their language, in their daily lifestyle.
S.Sofia has
3,071 inhabitants, and she is the homeland of the famous
Hellenist and paleographer Pasquale Baffi (1741-1799) who was
also a martyr in the Neapolitan Republic era.
