The Church of Saint Atanasio the Great
This is not only the main church of the town, but she is one of
the most beautiful in the Lungrean Diocese. The church is
located in the heart of the town’s main square with the building
dating back to 1742. This is the where the church parish is also
situated. From an architectural point of view, its structure
includes that of a single nave and square apsis. Its internal
walls and church ceiling were completely painted and decorated
in the 80s by a Cretan painter by the name of Nikos Jannakakis.
The Church of Saint Sofia Martrie
This church was founded in the Medieval times, and still to
date, this church has maintained some of its Byzantine-style
characteristics. There are old valuable pictures preserved here,
and icons that come from the Basilian monastery in Grottaferrata.
The Church of Saint Venere
This church was built in 1600 by a local noble family, and is
situated on the outskirts of the town. One can admire the
spectacular icons inside this church which are the works of an
Albanian painter Josif Drobroniku. There is a painting of the
1600s that represents the church’s martyr, Saint Venere.
Chapel of Saint Atanasio
This is a very distinctive Byzantine-style structure, erected in
the 90s on a small, former shrine that was dedicated to its
named patron saint. The paintings of the Albanian painter, Josif
Drobroniku, are very significant here, and are most certainly
well-worth visiting. |
